VasangalThe lap figuratively, i.e. protection, shelter. Also a ritual in marriage where the bride is asked to sit on the lap of her mother-in-law.
Notes =>In this song, the singer says that Varmai* comes empty-handed but takes plenty of gifts back with her. Here, the reference to the gold chain along with other ornaments is also to her beautiful daughter, precious as a gold chain. It equally suggests that one is handing over one’s beautiful daughter to somebody else
